Ideally, your dog would sit with your lap inside the cabin in the airplane. It is by far and away the safest, least stressful method for your canine friend going by air. However, this isn't the situation on most U.S. airlines. Large dogs and "exotic" animals like rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs are rarely allowed inside cabin, and the majority airlines only allow one small cat or dog for traveling you. Most airlines need have documentation through your veterinarian proclaiming that your dog has good health and contains received all required vaccinations. All airlines have restrictions regarding when short-nosed varieties of dogs can fly, in line with temperatures during time of flight. Some large airlines will be more pet-friendly than others.
Delta Air Lines
Delta allows one household bird, cat or dog small enough to adjust to comfortably in a kennel within the seat directly in front of you. The pet has to be in excess of 2 months old and must remain in the kennel during flight. Otherwise, cats, dogs, household birds, guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters are accepted as checked baggage, and you could transport a total of two kennels per flight. Giant-size kennels can only be shipped as cargo.
American Airlines
In the cabin, American Airlines accepts nearly two dogs or cats of the identical species over 8 weeks old in a single kennel up to 19 inches long, 13 inches wide and 9 inches high. You will need to make reservations to bring your canine friend in advance. As check-in baggage, at the most two checked pets per passenger is allowed. They accept no other varieties of animals besides dogs and cats.
United Airlines
Your dog, cat or household bird (canary, finch or parakeet) can be accepted as carry-on or checked baggage. One small dog, one cat, two weaned puppies, kittens or two birds may come within the cabin if they relax in a kennel small enough to adjust to beneath the seat. Rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs is going to be accepted as checked baggage only. All other animals, including parrots, cockatiels and ferrets, must fly cargo.
Continental Airlines
Continental allows domesticated cats, dogs, pet rabbits and household birds to get carried in the aircraft cabin of all flights from the Us. Only one pet is allowed per person, in a very kennel to be beneath the seat. Advanced reservations are important. Otherwise, pets are shipped as cargo.
